Dr. Who As Anime
SF Signal —
Dr. Who has been enjoying a resurgence in popularity due to the new series on BBC TV, so it's no wonder someone finally got around to creating an anime version of the good Doctor. What may surprise you is that it's Jon Pertwee as the third Doctor that has been given the anime treatment. The following clip, showing not only the progression of a scene from rough sketch to completion but also some other scenes as well, is from Paul "Otaking" Johnson. You can find more of his work at his Deviantart page.
As for the clip, it has its good and bad aspects. Some of the animation seems rather choppy, but it certainly has that anime feel which ...
News: Doctor Who Anime!
Kasterborous Doctor Who Site —
Fan productions really don't get better than this - an anime interpretation of Doctor Who which matches the Third Doctor with companions, realistic Venusian Aikido, Daleks, CYbermen, the Master, the Brigadier, some young companions in a typical anime style and clever use of sound clips. The quality of the work is terrific, although seems to need some work in places. It's been created created by a guy called MightyOtaKing who certainly deserves some kudos for making it this far with the project and doing such a great job of bringing the Third Doctor to life in such a manner! Doctor Who Fan Film Kicks Some Anime
Fan Cinema Today —
When it comes to cult media fans, it’s hard to find followers more fervid than both anime aficionados and the folks who live and breathe Doctor Who. It’s not surprising then that someone went all Reeses Peanut Butter Cup on ‘em, figuring they’d be two great tastes that taste great together. The result is what looks to be some impressive homemade Dr. Who anime.
I say “looks to be” because the finished fan film isn’t available yet. Paul “OtaKing” Johnson, a 31-year-old amateur animator from Sheffield, UK, is still hard at work knocking out his Who flick where the Good Doctor kicks some serious, er, backside. Below is a ...
…But does the quilt travel in time?
Watching Doctor Who —
(It turns out that I’ve been collecting odds and ends of news and coolness in my Firefox tags since before I left for Gallifrey One. So, here they are all gathered together for you.)
I’ve got two word for you all: TARDIS quilt! My Mum has gotten very into quilting since she’s retired, and in surfing around quilting sites she discovered this quilt. She has now added my request for a TARDIS quilt of my own to her growing queue. I rather think I will remain at the end for a while, but I don’t mind. I can wait, albeit impatiently.
There’s a rumour going around that Robert Mugabe, the ...
Macross-Inspired Doctor Who Anime Exterminates Our Eyeballs [Doctor Who]
io9 —
While the Tenth Doctor is getting his own animated special, one fan reimagines the adventures of Doctor Who's Third Doctor as an anime, where he battles Daleks and Cybermen in a futuristic Tokyo, with a scantily-clad girl by his side. Paul Johnson, who calls himself "Otaking," is working on his own Doctor Who anime, a video in which the Third Doctor encounters thugs, the military, and a stereotypical anime babe, and gets caught in a war between the Daleks and the Cybermen. He's released a couple of brief clips, including this one starring the Daleks: ...
My Birthday Wish...
HeroPress —
Okay, one of my birthday wishes... I hope Paul 'OtaKing' Johnson finishes his Doctor Who anime cartoon. I love this mash-up between Classic Doctor Who (we get the Third Doctor, the Brigadier, daleks and cybermen) and classic anime (the Doctor's companion is an archetypal anime girl). First up we have a four-minute "making of" segment, showing the processes used - Then two 50-second clips of the finished product ...
