Sci Fi Channel Finally Promotes Sci Fi Wire
SF Signal —
The Sci Fi Channel's news page, Sci FI Wire, has finally gotten a site of it's own.
It's about time! For all the complaining we do about their programming, I've been seeing good things happening to their web presence over the last several months. Even before it was spun off, SciFi Wire had started engaging in more "blog-like" items, which is to say they are offering up opinion pieces, lists and the like. They've got the audience, so it's great to finally see this type of content there. They've also got blogs for gadget-heads (DVICE) and gamers (Fidgit). Kudos to the SciFi ...
Nestor Carbonell Discusses Lost and His “Eyeliner”
Watching Lost —
In the last episode of Lost (Jughead), it seems the character of Richard Alpert, played by Nestor Carbonell, is becoming a very integral part of the mythology now.
He’s probably wondering and realizing the same thing, what with seeing his role, originally intended as a recurring guest spot, developed into such an important figure.
He talks about this in an interview with Sci-Fi Wire
Excerpts from the interview:
It must be a great deal to be so sought after by the producers that they hire you for the rest of the show. ...

Backpedaling
Views from Medina Road —
I've been advised by the editors of Sci Fi Wire , per my February 15th post, that there is "MORE content related to books on the new Wire, not less" -- though actually I'd been comparing the new Wire to the old SF Weekly, perhaps not a fair comparison. As I browse today's Wire homepage, I do see five items tagged Books, even if four of them are about movies being made from books; the fifth is a review by Cynthia Ward. Still, I'm not sure that makes it a daily link for the top row of Links Portal.
Pine: Taking Kirk From Rebel to Captain
TrekToday —
Chris Pine had the job of taking James T. Kirk from a twenty-five-year old who was more like a fifteen-year-old, to the Captain of the Enterprise. As reported by Sci Fi Wire, Pine was given a Kirk that was young and angry. "What was presented to me was this vision of Kirk in the script as an angry young kid who is dealing with some heavy family s--t and is angry at the world," explained Pine.
"He's a rebel without a cause," explained Pine. "I think everyone can remember what it's
like to be fifteen, and he's a twenty-five-year-old fifteen-year-old!
He has to mold all that energy and that drive ...

Star Trek XI Enterprise Models
TrekToday —
Several replicas of the USS Enterprise are now on display in Hollywood, each painted with unique artwork.
As reported by Sci Fi Wire, three models of the Star Trek XI Enterprise are being shown at the Arclight Theater in Hollywood. The thirty-four-inch-long replicas were cast from the actual 3-D digital models created for Star Trek XI by Industrial Light & Magic. Each model was done by a different artist, ranging from FX Company/Quantum Mechanix, to two L.A.-area street artists. To read more, head to the article located here.
Combat Spock?
TrekToday —
Sulu wasn't the only character in Star Trek XI who was supposed to have a martial arts scene. As reported by Sci Fi Wire, Spock was originally slated to be in a hand-to-hand fight where he was outnumbered, according to Zachary Quinto. "There was originally in the film a sequence that was, I think it was, like, Spock against like six people hand-to-hand," said Quinto. "And so I spent a lot of time learning this particular form of martial arts."
But it was not to be. "Literally two days before we were shooting it," explained Quinto, "J.J. [Abrams] was like, 'Yeah, we're not ...

Bakula: No Leaping Back
TrekToday —
The odds are slim for a Quantum Leap movie, says Scott Bakula, who played Sam Beckett for five seasons on the time-jumping show. As reported by Sci Fi Wire, speaking to Quantum Leap fans at "Leap Back," a convention held in North Hollywood, California last week, Bakula explained why a Quantum Leap movie is probably not in the cards. "I think each day it becomes slimmer and slimmer, certainly for Dean [Stockwell] and I to be a part of [a Quantum Leap movie,] said Bakula. "But I think [Series Creator Don Bellisario] simplified the situation. There are all ...
Tahir: Comparisons To Kirk
TrekToday —
Unlike some captains portrayed in various Star Trek episodes and movies, those of Star Trek XI compare favorably to the original series version of Captain Kirk. As reported by Sci Fi Wire, Faran Tahir's Captain Robau is no effete captain filing his nails in his quarters, but a tough and competent captain who is worthy of the seasoned Captain James T. Kirk of the original series. ...

Nimoy: Comfortable With Spock
TrekToday —
Both Leonard Nimoy and Spock would have a similar attitude towards life as they aged, becoming more comfortable with themselves. As reported by Sci Fi Wire, Nimoy didn't have much difficulty into slipping back into the role of Spock. "I found myself extremely comfortable doing it," said Nimoy. "I found myself very close to the character. I think that in a fun kind of way, in a wonderful kind of way, my own life has come to a point where I feel more, probably as Spock would at that point in his life, comfortable in his shoes. The Spock that we've showed all through the years always had some kind of ...
Quinto On Deleted Scenes
TrekToday —
While most of Zachary Quinto's scenes made it into the Star Trek XI, some other actors weren't so fortunate. As reported by Sci Fi Wire, cuts involving Quinto's work were mostly in the nature of shortening scenes. "There are other versions, there are longer versions, of scenes," said Quinto. "Like, for example, the debate between Kirk and Spock when he gets called out for cheating on the test. That was a much longer sequence, and Chris [Pine] and I both really loved that process, shooting that scene. So I was like, 'Oh, well, that's really whittled away a little bit.'" ...
Lessons Learned From Star Trek XI
TrekToday —
When it comes to making a sequel, Star Trek XI Co-writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have to decide in which one of several story directions they should go, but the pair have learned valuable lessons from Star Trek XI that should give them the confidence to know that whatever story they choose, the fans will be there and be open to acceptance of their work. ...
Abrams On Star Trek XII Possibilities
TrekToday —
J.J. Abrams is thinking about the next Star Trek movie and does not reject past storylines for future storie ideas. As reported by Sci Fi Wire, Abrams is keeping an open mind when it concerns potential storylines for Star Trek XII. "The great thing is we're all open to anything," he said. "I think the fun of where we are with Trek is that it can and should just be fully explored."
This means not just new storylines, but the possibility of looking to past Star Trek stories for inspiration. "I think to limit ourselves to only new adventures would be a mistake," said ...
Bana Moves On From Star Trek
TrekToday —
Eric Bana has moved on to other projects after his character Nero was killed off in Star Trek XI, seemingly ruling out any appearance in a sequel. As reported by Sci Fi Wire, Bana will be seen next month in The Time Traveler's Wife, a film based on Audrey Niffenegger's novel of the same name.
In The Time Traveler's Wife, Bana plays Time traveler Henry DeTamble, a man with a genetic anomaly that causes him to become "unstuck in time," disappearing from his wife's life while she waits for him to return. "With all those things, it's so tricky, because ...

Orci and Kurtzman Talk Trek Sequel
TrekToday —
Will a familiar character from two original series episodes make an appearance in Star Trek XII? As reported by Sci Fi Wire and Comic Book Movie, the writers are being meticulous when it comes to planning for the sequel to the successful Star Trek XI. "We have to comb through everything and make sure that we leave no stone unturned because that was the approach that I think we were looking for on the first movie," said Alex Kurtzman.
There have been meetings and discussions about the movie, but the script is not as far along as Zoe Saldana (Uhura) reported ...
Here's a clip of Dominic Monaghan on FlashForward (I think that's how it should be written)
TV Squad-True Blood —
... Monaghan might be showing up on Lost this season, if you believe the rumors that are going around that old characters will make a return to the show in some way. But he's also going to be a regular on FlashForward, ABC's other mysterious-time show. Here's a short clip that introduces his character. It's great how he can be so menacing and tough even though he's, um, my height.
